Hannah Shore leads the way in sleep innovation as Head of Sleep Science at Mattress Online. With advanced qualifications from the University of Oxford’s Sleep Medicine Programme and a strong background in biomechanics, she combines cutting-edge research with practical expertise to help you achieve better, healthier sleep.
Hannah has always been passionate about how our bodies work and this led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science and a Master of Science in Biomechanics at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). During her academic career with UCL, Hannah explored how to optimise physical performance and co-authored several research papers on the subject.
This expertise in biomechanics naturally transitioned to the world of sleep science where Hannah discovered the impact sleep has on the body and how we can use this knowledge to promote healthier and restorative sleep. While working for the UK's leading mattress brand Silentnight, Hannah studied at the University of Oxford’s Sleep Medicine Programme, earning a prestigious Postgraduate Diploma.
During her time at Oxford University, Hannah expanded her knowledge of sleep and sleep disorders, helping her to better understand what exactly is needed for a better night’s sleep.
Hannah has also completed an incredible two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership research project into redefining how we understand mattress ergonomics. Her research investigated how different mattresses can best support various body shapes and sizes for a more restorative night’s sleep.
Already, Hannah’s contributions to the sleep and mattress industry have earned her several prestigious accolades. This includes the Furniture Makers Guild 60 for 60 Award, recognising her outstanding dedication and progress in her chosen field. At the British Sleep Society, she was awarded the Green Ribbon Prize for her research into how different body measurements can predict the ideal mattress firmness for a person.
Hannah’s work has also been presented on the global stage, with her research paper on how zoned mattresses impact the biomechanics of the human body being presented at the European Sleep Research Society Conference in Basel, Switzerland. She has also attended the World Sleep Society Conference in Vancouver, Canada, staying up to date with all of the latest discoveries and innovations in the world of sleep.
Beyond her academic achievements, Hannah has become a familiar face in conversations about sleep. She was the face of Premier Inn’s Downtime Series and was a featured guest at Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Festival, providing relatable and trusted sleep advice to the public.
